What time is each shichen?

The twelve traditional two-hour periods.

  1. Each period covers two hours; Zi crosses midnight.
  2. Ranges include the start, not the end: Chou starts at 01:00.
  3. This is a common modern clock-time reference, not a complete chart calculation.

Common modern clock-time reference

Zi 子23:00–01:00
Chou 丑01:00–03:00
Yin 寅03:00–05:00
Mao 卯05:00–07:00
Chen 辰07:00–09:00
Si 巳09:00–11:00
Wu 午11:00–13:00
Wei 未13:00–15:00
Shen 申15:00–17:00
You 酉17:00–19:00
Xu 戌19:00–21:00
Hai 亥21:00–23:00

For a BaZi chart, also state whether clock or solar time is used, check historical time zones and daylight saving, and specify the day-boundary convention. Methods using 23:00 and 00:00 as the day boundary must be distinguished; this table does not choose one.

If this might help later, keep a copy of the card.
