BaZi (Four Pillars): four pairs of traditional symbols based on birth date and time. Day Master: the Heavenly Stem of the birth day. Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches form each pillar. A luck cycle is a traditional period in the chart, not a probability.

Year / Month / Day / Hour Pillar (年柱／月柱／日柱／時柱): the four columns. Ten Gods (十神): ten relationship categories measured against the Day Master. Annual cycle (流年): the stem and branch associated with a year. True solar time: time adjusted using longitude and the equation of time. Useful God (用神): a term whose meaning depends on the method used. Clash / Combination / Punishment (沖／合／刑): traditional relationships, not automatic outcomes.
