Was daylight saving already adjusted?

Check before subtracting an hour.

  1. Start with the original record: is it the clock time used at birth?
  2. Check the place and date: was daylight saving in effect?
  3. Check the tool: if it already adjusted the time, do not subtract again.

Example: Hong Kong used summer time on 1 July 1975. An original clock reading of 09:30 becomes 08:30 after removing that one-hour advance. Do not subtract again if your tool has already done this. Check other places and dates separately. Daylight saving, historical standard time zones and true solar time are separate adjustments.

If this might help later, keep a copy of the card.
