Know your birth chart? Try a different tradition.

If you enjoy exploring a Western birth chart, BaZi and Zi Wei Dou Shu offer two different ways to approach familiar questions about personality, relationships, work and periods of life.

You do not need to know Chinese to get started. The menus and short guides are in English; the charts still contain traditional Chinese characters.

The same birth details, different charts

A full Western birth chart is more than a Sun sign. It commonly includes planetary positions, zodiac signs, houses and aspects. BaZi and Zi Wei Dou Shu use different rules, so they can produce different interpretations from the same birth details.

Western natal astrology

Planetary positions and other chart points at the birth time and place are interpreted through signs, houses and aspects. You will often see a chart wheel. The interpretation depends on the method and reader.

BaZi — the Four Pillars

The birth year, month, day and hour become four pairs of calendar symbols, read through yin and yang, the five elements and their relationships. You will see four columns, a Day Master used as a reference point, and traditional timing cycles.

Zi Wei Dou Shu

Named stars are assigned to twelve chart areas, called palaces, using traditional placement rules based on birth details. You will see a twelve-palace chart with stars and transformation labels. These placements are not calculated in the same way as a Western planetary chart.

What makes it a fresh experience?

The interest is in exploring another tradition: four columns of symbols in BaZi, or twelve palaces in Zi Wei Dou Shu. Familiar topics appear in a different structure. Compare the language and interpretation with readings you have seen before, and decide what you find useful or unconvincing.

These systems are not translations of your Western zodiac sign. A Sun sign does not determine a BaZi Day Master, and a Western house is not interchangeable with a Zi Wei palace.

What if the readings disagree?

Different rules can lead to different answers. We read the two Chinese methods separately and state uncertainty. Agreement between readings is not independent proof; disagreement is not a reason to assume the most flattering reading is right.

We do not claim that BaZi or Zi Wei Dou Shu is more accurate than Western astrology. Calculating a chart and demonstrating that an interpretation predicts real events are different tasks.
